Health Sustainability Forum: HIV, drug policy and human rights in EECA countries

On June 8-9, Warsaw hosted the Health Sustainability Forum–2023, which was attended by more than 100 people from 25 countries.

The main goal of the forum was to ensure the sustainability of health services for key populations in the context of the complex geo-political transformation of the EECA region. In the context of Russian aggression against Ukraine, the unstable political situation in other countries of the region, shrinking space for civil society in the countries of Central Asia, respect for human rights and upholding progressive legislation becomes a particularly urgent task.

President Kwasniewski, head of the Regional Commission on Drug Policy (ECECACD), spoke at the opening, presenting an overview of the political situation in the region, development prospects, key risks and opportunities for the development of the EECA region.

Alexander Kwasniewski also presented the Guiding Principles for Effective and Humane Drug Policy in Eastern and Central Europe and Central Asia—a document that outlines the main provisions and directions for the formation of a balanced, evidence-based and human rights-based drug policy for the region.
